For 14 years and $8,866 in fundraising, Employee Benefits Analyst Jacob Lauten has supported the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, an organization that raises funds and awareness for childhood cancer research.
Jacob first developed a passion for fundraising for children’s cancer through his association with Penn State THON when he helped with fundraising efforts through his business fraternity. Later, his family was touched by cancer when his cousin’s daughter Peyton was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in December 2020.
To help honor Peyton and her struggle, Jacob reached out to the hospital where she was being treated to inquire as to how he may be able to assist other families seeking treatment at the cancer center. Since many of them have to travel to and park at the facility often it was determined he could assist by creating a fund to assist the families with covering their parking fees. Peyton’s Parking Passes is a program that Jacob helped start for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and so far, the program has brought in over $4,000 and provided over 200 parking passes to families. Earlier this year, Peyton received the news that her routine scans showed no signs of cancer.
